Modern Izakaya Roji Expands Inventive Cocktail Range

Modern Izakaya Roji Expands Inventive Cocktail Range

Roji also introduces extended hours and a resident DJ, securing its reputation as Hong Kong’s ultimate hotspot for an elevated good time.

Roji, Hong Kong’s most exciting and modern izakaya, quickly secured a reputation for delicious Japanese fare from the moment it opened in April. Now it is set to become equally well-known for its drinks, having just added new highly creative cocktails and a signature shot to its inventive selection, all perfect for the summer heat.

The first new addition is the delicious Pepper Miso (HK$120), which takes a classic Margarita as inspiration, infusing it with a Roji Japanese twist. Beginning with a combination of Tequila (reposado and blanco) and mezcal, combined with the vibrancy of fresh yuzu and mango, balanced with red miso for an umami hit and garnished with a Japanese pepper for a tingly finish. The result is a refreshing cocktail that is perfect any time of the day.

Showcasing the ingenious talents of the mixology team, led by master mixologist Lok Gurung, is Yamanashi (HK$120). Featuring a berry-forward premium red wine from the Yamanashi prefecture paired with Japanese melon liqueur, sake, white cognac, Antica Formula and a dash of fresh lime juice. It is finished with a lightly pickled cucumber garnish that with each bite enhances the unique flavour profile of this sensorial cocktail.

These daring new additions, join the already popular signature cocktails: Kinome (HK$120) featuring kinome (prickly ash) infused vodka, Fernet Hunter, coconut syrup and tropical citrus elements; the umami forward Mugi Punch (HK$120), a Japanese spin on a milk rum punch, with a base of Matusalam rum, combined with barley Shochu, and notes of citrus, mirin, Koikuchi Shoyu (dark soy sauce) and bonito flakes; and the classic Old Fashioned inspired Red Bean (HK$135), a complex cocktail of Ezra Brooks bourbon infused in-house with red bean, black sesame Shochu, Hojicha (roasted green tea) and Japanese bitters.

Last, but by no means least, the signature Roji Shot (HK$85), a modern Japanese spin on the old-school Tequila shot. An enticing combination of coconut and pandan Tequila, mezcal and agave syrup, and garnished with frozen fruit (pineapple, papaya, watermelon) sprinkled with kombu salt. The perfect summer shot throughout an evening of revelry.

To further enhance its reputation as the place to be seen, and the ultimate destination for late night dining, drinking and good times, from Thursday to Saturday Roji has extended last food orders to 11.30pm and will be open for drinks until 2am.

Additionally, every Friday and Saturday starting in August, Roji’s resident DJ will also ramp up the chic party vibes with an eclectic mix of musical genres.
